I am a long time note reader but never really got the theory of chords and how to use them to embellish my hymn playing at church & home. This book helped me a fantastic deal really, even though its oriented toward introducing newbies to the piano. I have played the piano technically well for years, but i couldn’t play anything but what was written on the page. Now i can do significantly more thankfulness to this book. I bought two copies for friends in simlar situations.
My niece in Kansas likes the piano, and I was told by her father it’s her latest “thing”. We even got to see and hear her play over Skype for the holidays, and she loved having this book.

This is a fantastic book for fun simple songs. Has a lot of the classics. I am a beginning piano player and I can play quite a few of the songs and sing along with my small one. I would buy this book again for sure.
The thrill of a lifetime: We skype our 20 month ancient grandchild. He sits alongside his dad who guides the toddler’s hand to play the melody while (dad) plays the accompaniment. We all sing along to the songs we learned as children. The next joy will come when the grandson is able to play and sing all by himself – - – which may not be too long since the arrangements are pretty unadorned. A nice assortment of music and lyrics we had long forgotten.

John Thompson’s Simplest Piano Course Part 1 Reviews
This book is wonderful to start teaching young children the rudiments of piano playing. The children are most excited when they have to play their parts while I play the accompaniment. These ‘duet’ sessions have generated much joy, laughter and fun, which is what music should be to children.
If your child requires more challenging work, I would suggest using this book in tandem with another book like from Michael Aaron’s run or John Thompson’s “Teaching Small Fingers to Play”.
I like it. Students gather the clarification one-by-one in songs with duet accompaniment. There are work pages to do along with songs to play. The book is colorful and fun to look at. The progression moves along slowly so that each thought is learned; while at the same time students are playing songs each week and feeling much success. I like it a lot better then the ancient Thompson run.
